Prosecution Rests in Trial of Man Accused of Killing His Nine-Year-Old Daughter
The prosecution wrapped up its case against a man charged with second-degree murder in the death of his daughter with a five-hour video recreating the route he may have taken in the hours before he reported her missing. On Friday, the jury finished watching the New York State Police video based on data from the man’s phone and his car’s location. Jurors watched close to four hours of the footage. Frattolin is also charged with concealment of a human corpse in the death of his nine-year-old daughter, Melina Frattolin, who lived in Montreal. The Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has agreed to a New Democrat MP’s request to undertake a review of the costs of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The NDP said on Aug. 4 that the PBO had accepted MP Heather McPherson’s July 21 request to investigate the bridge’s “financial costs relative to initial government estimates, including contract changes, legal actions, and cost overruns and accountability.” McPherson previously said at a July 29 House of Commons government operations committee meeting that Canadians deserved answers on the bridge deal, and to know “why the prime minister misled the media,” according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
Charges Laid Against 2 Men for Last Month’s Deadly Shooting at Toronto Street Festival
Toronto police say two men have been charged with multiple offenses including first-degree murder in relation to a deadly shooting last month at the Salsa on St. Clair festival in Toronto. Police identified the two accused as Jessiah Massaro-Gill, 18, and Lewis Downey, 18, and said both are currently being held in custody. The July 11 shooting at the Latin street festival claimed the lives of 25-year-old Shaquan Quashie and 20-year-old Cesar Vernaza in what police described at the time as a “targeted event.”
