day six: finishing the wicklow way

SERIES REPOST 2022: day six (~22 miles; ~103 total) hurt like hell — my left leg was blowing up, every step felt like a knife, and i still pushed to finish the wicklow way, score a secret pub pint, and get my completion certificate from an older couple who’ve been blessing hikers for decades. i limped into bunclody swollen, borderline broken, and made the call to bus back to dublin, drop weight, and face the fact that my body might be done, even if my head isn’t.

Tested and True (Matthew 4:1-11)

Jesus stops the worshiper at the altar: first be reconciled to your brother. The Fifth Commandment reaches the heart — anger, 'Raca,' the grudge nursed since Easter — so no one comes with clean hands, and God will not accept half a sacrifice. But this altar faces the other way: God left His throne and reconciled us by Christ's blood while we were still His enemies. So the righteousness that exceeds the scribes and Pharisees is not one we scrub up in ourselves

day seven: back to dublin

after a long night of limping and hunting for food in a half-closed town, i ended up in a locals-only pub, got adopted by a guy named kevin who kept handing me guinness, and then caught the early bus back to dublin. there, i slipped some of my dad’s and bill’s ashes into the crypt at st. michan’s, swapped my heavy pack for lighter gear, saw friends, and heard live trad music — and decided it was time to get my wrecked leg checked before pushing on.

"The Last Question" was Asimov's favorite short story of his own authorship, and is one of a loosely connected series of stories concerning a fictional computer called Multivac. Through successive generations, humanity questions Multivac on the subject of entropy.

“The Spirit gives you the peace Christ bought” Pentecost 2026

He who scattered at Babel gathers here at Pentecost. He who divided the tongues there of evil, now unites them here for good. The same Spirit. The same fire. At Babel, God came down and scattered. At Pentecost, God came down to gather, and He gathered by preaching. Not by making the nations speak one language. By making the one Gospel spoken in every language. Every tongue heard the same thing: the Spirit gives you the peace Christ bought.
