Apple tree

Apple tree

If all the fruit you bear

gets picked when ripe

for someone else’s pie,

if all the birds and bats

should pass you by

for some group nearby,

if all your leaves should fall

and leave your branches bare,

exposed to anybody’s stare,

you will remain a tree.

.

You will grow new leaves

and bear more fruit

and birds will nest again

in the palm of your hand.
