We don\u0027t have a \u0022thing\u0022 or a \u0022theme\u0022 so much as we are just a tiny band of mistfits, aiming to create a unique an interesting way to experience social media. There are many ways to get involved or lots of the really cool features to use. Once you\u0027ve been invited, if or how you participate is up to you. There are lots of options, with varying levels of involvement, from set-it-and-forget-it to actively helping with public feed curation.\n\n**Set \u0026 Write\/Outbox to SA:** wss:\/\/[spatia-arcana.com](http:\/\/spatia-arcana.com) can be set in your profile relay list as a write\/outbox. This will serve your notes to your followers as well as place them in the SA relay feed, viewable in many Nostr clients. (Some iOS clients do not have support independant outbox relays, so if you have iphone friends, be sure to keep a fully iOS compatible relay in your profile outboxes, too.)\n\n**Writing Single Notes to SA:** If you prefer to keep your profile outboxes set to other relays, you can also publish to the Spatia-Arcana feed in clients like Jumble or Fevela. Granular publishing options can be accessed through the note composer in each of these clients, just below the text box. Save SA as a \u0027favorite relay\u0027 to easily access it anytime. Alternatively, you can choose to send your notes there while viewing the relay\u0027s feed. Using these clients, while posting to only to Spatia-Arcana will created \u0027protected\u0027 notes that live solely within the SA feed. This method is handy for sharing and discussing things that you may not want to put directly in front of your followers. (Other clients that support a granular level of publishing like this include Coracle, Nosotros, Lumilumi, and Nostur. Method and specifics are too broad for this guide but feel free to hit me up with any questions.)\n\n**Reduce Notification Spam and Receive Secure DMs with SA:** If you\u0027re feeling a bit overwhelmed by bot replies \u0026 DM spam, your membership can help. Add wss:\/\/[spatia-arcana.com\/inbox](http:\/\/spatia-arcana.com\/inbox) to your profile\u0027s relay list. The subrelay filters incoming public replies and other actions through a unified web of trust based on the entire membership tree. You can guard your DMs with it, too, by setting it as a DM relay in any client that supports NIP-17 compliant DMs, including Wisp, Amethyst, and Flotilla (probably many more). Our PoW requirement for DMs is currently set at 7.\n\n**Visiting the Spatia-Arcana Homepage:** You can go straight to [https:\/\/spatia-arcana.com](https:\/\/spatia-arcana.com) and explore many of the features and feeds from there. Click the login button to wake up your [nSigner browser extension](https:\/\/spatianostra.com\/a-simple-list-of-nostr-signers\/) . If no browser extension is detected, a login window will pop up, prompting you to sign in with your[ remote signer](https:\/\/spatianostra.com\/a-dummies-guide-to-nostr-signers\/). Once logged in, all available member options will be unlocked.\n\n**Inviting others**: Copy and paste another person\u0027s npub into the field and click invite to add them to the community. Each community member acts as the sponsor to their invitees. You can drop or disable your invited members. Disabling will keep their invitees active, and dropping will remove everyone that user has invited, along with the user in question. Your available number of invitations is visible on your account information page, accessed by clicking on your name at the top right of the page. On your page you will be able to view your personal usage statistics, claim your \u003C@[spatia-arcana.com](http:\/\/spatia-arcana.com)\u003E username\/nostr address, and sync your notes from other relays, as well.\n\n\n![](https:\/\/spatianostra.com\/content\/images\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2026-03-13-135425.png)\n\n**NIP-05 username\/address**: Choose and enter any username that you want, as long as it is not already in use by any other member of the community. Cick anywhere outside the box to save, then visit the profile editing section in any social client under your profile settings.\n\n**Syncing between relays**: If you want to duplicate your notes to or from other relays, add the relay URL in the remote relay box and check the a box. \u0022Fetch from\u0022 syncs events from Spatia-Arcana to the remote relay. \u0022Publish to\u0022 syncs events from the remote relay to the community. Syncing helps to keep your notes searchable within the community. Since this a hobby project for me, Spatia-Arcana can offer no gaurantees for available space or retention timeframes. If you need long-term storage,please consider backing up your notes on a personal relay or with a commercial archive service.\n\n### **Services:**\n\nClick on the Services tab to check out chat groups, grasp, paywall features, and blossom media hosting.\n\n**Group Chats**: All chat groups available to each member will be listed here. You can conveniently hop into any of the them with the client links provided, or you can copy the group ID to access the groups from your preferred NIP-29 client. You can also create your own group chats with various privacy settings. Both you and Spatia-Arcana administators can act as moderators of these groups, no matter which level of privacy you choose. Unrestricted groups will be accessible to anyone and other community members do not need to explicitly join the group to participate. Group chat invite codes can be created within some group chat clients, making it easy to share access with your friends. (Again, since Spatia-Arcana is a hobby project, please don\u0027t use private group chats in nefarious ways. I\u0027ll have zero tolerance for it. I doubt there is any need to say that because SA members are awesome, but I feel compelled to put that in writing since I am signing this hahaha)\n\n**Blossom**: Your Spatia-Arcana membership includes 500mb of Blossom media hosting. This amount is subject to change and comes with no gaurantees for storage time. If you should choose to utilize it, you may do so by adding [https:\/\/spatia-arcana.com](https:\/\/spatia-arcana.com) as a media host in your profile. This is a fairly widespread feature, so if you have doubts about where to manage your media hosts, just ask! I\u0027m happy to point you in the right direction. Additionally, try an Nostr tool like Bouquet or Aither on Android to mirror your media to other hosts, in case I disappear or go too broke to pay for our storage :) From the SA homepage, you can upload or delete your files, copy links, and monitor your available storage capacity. I\u0027ll be sure to annouce any changes that I make to or message members, if I run into any problems. For full clarity, I do have full access to your images. Please store your eggplants and peaches someplace else.\n\n**Grasp: **I can\u0027t code. Maybe someday. But until then, I do have the Grasp server enabled for SA members and it is already in use. If you are able to use it, you probably don\u0027t need me to tell you about it... please feel free to mirror your repositories.\n\n**Paywall:** This is a relatively new thing. I don\u0027t think there are very many clients supporting this yet, if any. The idea being, that you can set up a subscriber list for exclusive content, with payment handled off-relay. I\u0027ll update this as it becomes more broadly usable. If you are up for experimentation, it is currently enabled and ready for your tests.\n\n### The Interactive Subrelays:\n\n**wss:\/\/**[**spatia-arcana.com\/favorites**](http:\/\/spatia-arcana.com\/favorites) **aka Dilectus**: We\u0027re curating! Well, a few of us are, but any member can with Jumble, Fevela, x21, and other clients that support republishing. Click the 3-dot menu on any note and choose \u0027republish\u0027. The option will open your favorite relay list, where you can choose the target location. Right now, feed themes include anything to do with the moon, esoteric content, mystic visuals, music, ancient knowledge, and artisan craft. The only limitations are that you cannot republish your own notes or republish protected notes. This is a fun feed that anyone can browse, so I appreciate all the help I can get in making it lively and interesting.\n\n**wss:\/\/**[**spatia-arcana.com\/internal**](http:\/\/spatia-arcana.com\/internal) : This one is a member\u0027s-only feed. Only members can read and only members can write. You must use a client that supports protected notes and granular publishing, like Jumble, Fevela, and Nostur. I currently use this to make annoucements about new features, provide member tips, and to field the occasional question. That can change at anytime. If you want to chat with other members in a semi-private space, you are more than welcome. I had a chat group set up for user education, too, so there will be no loss in letting this become whatever members want it to be. Just open the relay view and browse, reply, or post. These relay-aware clients will handle the rest for you.\n\n**wss:\/\/**[**spatia-arcana.com\/personal**](http:\/\/spatia-arcana.com\/personal) : This one is basically a personal notebook, only you can see your own notes. A client capable of granular read\/writes is again required to use this. Nothing is encrypted, just simply not visible to others. As the relay operator, I do have access to these notes but I have no interest in your to-do lists and I have too many of my own ideas to steal any of yours. Feel free to use it as you see fit. The result is a slower, more thought-provoking feed (usually) and a great way to showcase the quality of content that SA members enjoy.\n\n### The Extras:\n\nIf you\u0027ve read this far, congratulations! You have found the secret bonus round! This is the perfect time to go over what we have been doing with relays.land\/spatianostra. The relay itself serves multiple purposes: to serve as a simple example content curation on Nostr, to create a welcoming space for new users, and most importantly to exemplify the ingenious idea behind it: [fiatjaf\u0027s](https:\/\/njump.me\/fiatjaf.com) Dynamic Voting Relay.\n\n### Lifting Out the Pieces\n\nNostr\u0027s wide-open data has proven to work well, even to the extent that many users seek less openness. People that are new to Nostr, in particular, can easily get overwhelmed by topic saturation and content that they may find distasteful. While it is in the spirit of Nostr\u0027s censorship resistant qualities for some clients and relays to adhere to the Wild West method of content exposure, it\u0027s also important to acknowledge that the majority of the world is already overwhelmed by too much online stimulation. The digital demigods of yore created an environment where any enjoyment and ability to focus is stripped away and replaced with apathy and a constant need to find the next better thing, while also capturing users and the content that they consume. The beauty of Nostr\u0027s openness is that it allows for many methods of curation to happen, without cordoning off data or a user\u0027s ability to access other data sources. Curation can easily happen at the relay level and the first true examples are starting to come to fruition, in relays such as wss:\/\/relays.land\/spatianostra .\n\n### Planting the Seed\n\nSetting out at the beginning of this experiment, there was a clear need for Nostr spaces that new users could browse to experience what Nostr has to offer without getting caught in a barrage spammy bots and distasteful things. We also wanted to create a space that reduced the topic saturation and discussions that new users may not understand or have interest in. With that in mind, we set out to create the Spatia Nostra feed. It has so far proven to be a welcoming and neutral space that is not flooded by any particular topic. Right now, a handful of users guide the feed with their own interests and likes... literally. Overtime, that handful of users will expand into many and the feed will become even more lively and diverse.\n\n### The Dynamic Voting Relay\n\nThe overarching concept is simple: members of a group vote for content that will appear in the feed. The Dynamic Voting Relay moves beyond that, to create a curated feed that is not owned or controlled by anyone. The membership base expands organically and the voting rights are constantly in flux, hence the \u0022Dynamic\u0022 part of the name. Each instance is seeded with an initial set of voters who are each assigned a number of shares. That number is determined by whoever is setting the relay\u0027s policies. The number can be small so that voting rights are distributed throughout the voting pool quickly, or they can be set large so that the initial set of voters maintain a guiding hand for a longer length of time, as was chosen for the Spatia Nostra feed. From there, the voting process begins to happen. Any note that is authored by a voter is considered as a nomination for one\u0027s own content. Any note by any user that is \u0022liked\u0022 or reposted by a member of the voting pool is also considered a nomination for feed placement. Each action is considered as voting with all of that member\u0027s available shares which are measured both numerically and in percentage. For a note to qualify for placement in the main feed, it must garner 25% of all available shares (the default was 30%, we did tweak this a little in the beginning to increase activity in the feed enough to act as proof-of-life for viewers). This voting action can be done from any Nostr client on any note that has been publicly published. Once a note meets that threshold, its author gains one share and the note is displayed in the main feed. If it\u0027s author was not previously part of the voting pool, they then become a contributing member and voter.\n\nThrough posting more content that other voting members enjoy, an individual author can gain heavier voting weight. Over time, the feed will shift away from any guiding voters having anything resembling control, to a feed that is purely community-led. We assume that by the time control shifts away from the Spatia Nostra feed\u0027s founding voters, that its members list will be a rich and diverse group that is creating, sharing, and liking a wide array of content. The hope is that eventual content saturation can be avoided and the feed can take on a life of its own without becoming a \u0022topic\u0022 feed. Only time will tell if that will work. So far it has done well.\n\nNo one in the voting pool has to do anything differently than they do anyway when engaging with Nostr content, which makes this a simple, user-friendly way to curate notes and develop loose social groups around interactions with each other, which is by far the most naturally human experience in any social media space. For those that want to take a hands-on approach to voting, the relay has a restricted area available only to those that are currently in the voting pool where they can browse content that has been nominated by their fellow voters and cast votes via like or repost. This not only creates the opportunity to be part of something meaningful; it also exposes active voters to other users and content that they may not have seen otherwise, acting as another layer in the community building process.\n\n### Retaining What Matters\n\nI\u0027ve had a hard time detaching myself from this concept in a way that I could write in a semi-neutral state about it. The whole process has been a lot of fun, and being part of something meaningful is always a good feeling. It is particularly exciting when it is something with such huge potential. Nostr users could benefit from many forms of open curation like this, including other instances of this relay\u0027s dynamic voting process. The voting action has made me consider more closely what I find important or interesting enough for others to see. How do I want to welcome people to the digital freedom that Nostr enables them to enjoy? The answer for me is gently, compassionately, and with no restrictions. That sounds overdramatic but anyone who has spent a bit of time here or worked on things understands that it is not. I showed up wildly unprepared and definitely out of my element. I live my life in movement, I rarely sit still for longer than 10 minutes, and I\u2019m quiet. My technical know-how stretches only as far as I need it to for the situations that life brings my way. I\u2019ll admit, I am pretty clever, but this was going to require much more knowledge than I had in my toolbox.  Clients? Relays? Keys? NIPs? Microapps?  Each worthy of its own assessment at some point and all critical to understanding nostr.  After figuring out that this is more than a \u201csocial network\u201d, things clicked.  I started noticing what was actually happening in this space. It was and remains incredible. I figured out how to experiment with some of the many awesome new tools. Devs wanted ideas, input, and suggestions\u2026 I have no shortage of ideas, so I started engaging a bit\u2026 more than I ever have anywhere aside from maybe FB where life keeps me beholden. Much to my surprise, my suggestions were met with welcoming arms. I was sold. Months have passed since my nostr epiphany moment but I still find myself floored on a nearly daily basis by the kindness, passion, unexpected interaction, incredible advancements, and the elusive mystery of the missing note. I\u2019m still trying new stuff and marveling at how far all of this has come in such a short amount of time.\n\nI\u2019ve never been one of the cool kids, so the weirdness of nostr is a perfect fit. A lot of what draws me back every day isn\u2019t what the average person may be looking for in their social media experience, but I think it might be what they need to lead a more fulfilling life, they just don\u2019t realize it yet. It is true, the masses want simple UX with pretty colors and lots of features that they don\u2019t understand but are able to use.  They want, as it\u2019s been so nicely put recently, handholding, not just through onboarding but through every action they take, whether it be posting a note, finding people, seeing content, NOT seeing content, or simply keeping track of their stuff. But do they really? I question whether people really \u2018want\u2019 those things or if they have just been conditioned to expect them.  I watch the people around me scroll mindlessly through short form vertical content set to the same tired audio tracks in hopes of finding one that brings them some joy.  When they do, they share it with those around them.  I watch them shuffle through hot topics in hopes of finding a cause to defend or one to demolish so they may feel that they are part of something.  Everyone is just searching for a meaningful connection.  Recently, I have gotten to watch what happens when I \u201creal-world\u201d some of my nostr moments, like making chimichurri, rattling on needlessly about tea bottles, or walking away from a conversation to get a picture of a train car that says \u201cSNORT\u201d on the side.  It simultaneously bothers and inspires me to see the squinty-eyed reaction from those around me when I tell them about these things. These examples are barely the surface of the personal meaning I have found by engaging on nostr and there is very little I could ever do to get anyone to understand that.  I\u2019ve been brought to tears, I\u2019ve dropped my phone in surprise, and I\u2019ve spent hours thinking about how to solve problems that someone like me has no place trying to solve. It\u2019s been profound and personal. It makes me want to be better and do better. It\u2019s very difficult to convince anyone that social media can be something so different than what they are accustomed to. It sounds like snake oil. I know a lot of this has to do with the type of person I am, and a lot of this has to do with timing, community size, and the shared broader mindset of that community. Eventually, meaningful interaction for the individual will likely wain as the tools are built that provide ease of use, when content exists in a searchable format, and as larger numbers of people find reason to leave their current chosen environments adding to the overall volume of the space. In it though, there is a seedling worth fostering for as long as possible.  Genuine connection is an evasive little thing in modern society and people are longing to be seen, heard, and to feel like they are part of something larger than themselves. I see it every day in their eyes and hear it in their stories. That delicate flower has laid some roots here and it would be a sad day to see that wither away.\n\nI don\u2019t think I would have assigned such meaning to my interactions without the effort required to engage in them. Right now, it takes some effort to find new people on nostr that entertain, educate, or inspire you but finding a specific person has become fairly easy. Basic content discovery is not nearly as difficult as it was a few months ago, with clients \u0026 apps supporting communities, hashtag movements, and trending models but it still requires some level of time investment to make use of those things. I think it\u2019s in a great spot, at least for now. Keeping some level of personal responsibility in the forefront of discovery may have a greater benefit on the ecosystem than building towards a replication of the hollowness that so many people don\u2019t even realize they want to escape. I\u2019m not suggesting that it should remain difficult to find things that match an individual\u2019s interests.  Every idea should be considered and tried. I just hope that the social side of nostr lands in the sweet spot between conscientious effort \u0026 ease of use so that people can find some meaning in their communications again. This precarious balance between too much and not enough personal responsibility for the average user might be a lofty dream but I do believe it is one worth pursuing along side the freedom \u0026 censorship resistance that nostr builders aspire to achieve. Much of the freedom that has been lost is due to the willingness to sacrifice personal responsibility in exchange for safety and convenience.  Along with it has gone the meaning that comes from effort and achievement that can only practicing accountability for one\u2019s self can provide.
