Enforcement of the AI Act Starts Today

The EU AI Act’s enforcement begins today, August 2, with potential fines for non-compliance affecting companies both inside and outside the EU. The AI Office will oversee general-purpose AI models, while national authorities and the European Data Protection Supervisor will handle other AI systems. Some enforcement deadlines have been postponed, with certain rules for high-risk AI systems now due in 2026, 2027, and 2028.
