Panettiere’s Death Leaves a Family Dispute Colliding With a Corporate Reckoning
Hayden Panettiere’s death has triggered two sharply different battles over the record: one surrounding what happened inside the Airbnb where she was found unconscious, and another over how institutions treated her during years of personal struggle.

Zach Hickerson, the brother of Panettiere’s boyfriend Brian, offered a detailed account that directly counters speculation about the actress’s final hours. He said he found Panettiere unconscious after arriving at the Airbnb, called 911, and watched Brian administer Narcan before the two performed CPR. “We then jointly performed CPR while 911 was on speaker until Fire and EMS arrived,” Hickerson said. He urged people to stop “speculation and sensationalism” until investigators release more facts.

Brian Hickerson’s lawyer likewise emphasized restraint, saying Panettiere’s death remained under investigation and that police had reported no signs of foul play. That account stands in stark contrast to Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, who described Brian as a “toxic individual” whom the family had tried to remove from her daughter’s life. Vogel said the presence of the Drug Enforcement Administration in the investigation suggested that “there are still questions” requiring answers.

The dispute over Panettiere’s legacy extends beyond her final hours. Neutrogena responded to renewed criticism over Panettiere’s claim that the company ended their relationship after she spoke publicly about postpartum depression. The brand said it had made her “feel unsupported during a very difficult time” and pledged funding for postpartum-depression support.

Panettiere, however, had described the episode as a moment that exposed the stigma surrounding postpartum depression. “It made me realize and understand exactly what people thought of women who experience postpartum depression,” she said. Together, the accounts show a death being interpreted through competing lenses: an unresolved investigation, a fractured family history and a broader reckoning over how vulnerability is treated in public life.
