Pro-government says firefighters rescued injured worker from Vračar construction-site hole
A worker fell into a hole about three meters deep at a construction site in Šumatovačka Street, in Belgrade’s Vračar district, during work on the site. The cause of the fall was not immediately known.
Colleagues alerted emergency services, prompting the rapid deployment of specialized firefighter-rescue teams. The site was reportedly difficult to access, with unstable ground around the opening, making the operation more demanding.
Firefighters descended into the hole, immobilized the injured man and used specialized equipment to bring him safely to the surface. Initial information indicated that he remained conscious and able to communicate throughout the rescue, although he suffered serious injuries to one leg.
After the evacuation, an ambulance crew provided first aid at the construction site before transporting the man to a medical facility for further examination and treatment.
Police and labor inspectors are expected to investigate the accident and establish the circumstances of the fall. Their inquiry will also examine whether the construction site complied with prescribed workplace safety measures.
