Pro-government says Djokovic’s Paris Masters opener offers a fast route back to contention
Novak Djokovic will begin his Paris Masters campaign on Tuesday against Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot, with the match set as the third contest on the central court. The program starts at 11 a.m., meaning Djokovic is not expected to take the court before 2 p.m.
The schedule was confirmed after two earlier matches: Arthur Rinderknech against Francisco Cerúndolo, followed by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s meeting with Alexandre Müller. The winner of Djokovic’s opener will face Australia’s Rinky Hijikata in the second round.
Djokovic enters the tournament with a significant incentive. He needs at least a semifinal appearance in Paris to preserve his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin. The Serbian, a seven-time Paris champion, has not played at the event during the past two seasons.
Vacherot, however, arrives with momentum. He won the ATP tournament in Basel on Sunday, while Djokovic was eliminated there in the round of 16 by Jan-Lennard Struff. One pro-government account described Vacherot as “in good form,” but argued that Djokovic’s freshness and “sheer quality” could prove decisive.
The match therefore presents a contrast between Djokovic’s experience and qualification pressure and Vacherot’s confidence after a breakthrough week. Its eventual start time will depend on how long the two preceding central-court matches last.
