pro-government says Bolshoi stars will bring Giselle to Novi Sad before an Italian tour
Two young principals of Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, Makar Mikhalkin and Maria Koshkarova, are scheduled to perform Giselle at the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad on November 24. The appearance is being promoted as an opportunity for Serbian audiences to see what organizers describe as “young stars of the Bolshoi Ballet.”
The production was staged for the Novi Sad company by choreographer Aleksandar Antonijević and premiered in March. According to the Serbian National Theatre, it received a positive response from audiences. The guest appearance is linked to longstanding cooperation between the theatre’s ballet director, Aja Jung, and Bolshoi Ballet director Makhаr Vaziev, the announcement said.
Mikhalkin began studying ballet at seven and entered the Moscow State Academy of Choreography at 10. After joining the Bolshoi ensemble in 2023, he quickly moved into solo and principal roles. He has also appeared in films, including Anna Karenina: Vronsky’s Story.
Koshkarova started ballet at five in Novosibirsk before continuing her training at the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg. She joined the Bolshoi in 2023 after an earlier engagement with the Mariinsky Theatre and has performed roles including Giselle, Kitri and Gamzati. The announcement says she was promoted to principal status at the beginning of 2026.
After the Novi Sad performance, Giselle is scheduled to travel to Italy. The production is set to appear at Vicenza’s City Theatre on November 28 and 29, followed by performances at Modena’s Luciano Pavarotti Theatre on November 30 and December 1.
