Gendarmerie Member Among Three Arrested in Zrenjanin Marijuana Lab Raid
Serbian police uncovered an alleged illegal marijuana-growing laboratory in Zrenjanin and arrested three people in a joint operation with the city’s Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities identified the suspects as Ž. G., 43, a member of the Gendarmerie, and two other people, M. G., 64, and J. G., 63.

The arrests followed searches of an apartment and other premises used by the suspects. Police said they seized 81 plants resembling Indian hemp, approximately 7.5 kilograms of dried plant material believed to be marijuana, weighing scales and equipment used to cultivate the drug.

According to the police account, the combination of the plants, cannabis and cultivation equipment indicated that the premises had been used for illegal production. The suspects are being held for up to 48 hours on suspicion of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotics.

After the detention period, investigators are expected to bring the three suspects before the competent prosecutor with criminal charges. The prosecutor will then decide on further proceedings. The reports available in the case do not include statements from the suspects, their lawyers or the Gendarmerie on the allegations.
