Serbia Keeps Fuel Prices Frozen as Temporary Tax Cut Runs On
Serbia’s technical government has extended a 25% reduction in excise taxes on oil derivatives through November 15, the Finance Ministry told Tanjug. The previous measure had been due to expire on November 8, making the extension the latest in a series of short-term interventions to limit fuel costs.
Under the decision, the excise tax is set at 57.41 dinars per liter for leaded gasoline, 54 dinars for unleaded gasoline and 55.53 dinars for gas oils. Pro-government reporting highlighted the continuation of the tax relief and the specific tax rates, presenting the move as an effort to maintain current prices.
At the pumps, the maximum price of Eurodiesel remained 236 dinars per liter, while gasoline cost 207 dinars. Opposition-aligned reports also recorded the unchanged prices, noting that the rates applied from 3 p.m. on the day of the announcement until November 13. That reporting stressed that both diesel and gasoline had cost the same during the previous week.
A separate report citing the Beta news agency confirmed that the Finance Ministry had extended the reduction for another week, while repeating the same excise rates. The decision therefore offered immediate price stability but remained temporary: the tax reduction was scheduled to last until November 15, while weekly retail prices were still subject to subsequent government announcements.
