Kraljevo Pregnancy Death Triggers Review as Husband Defends Medical Team
On November 3, emergency medical workers brought a woman in her fourth month of pregnancy to Studenica General Hospital in Kraljevo under resuscitation measures and without signs of life. The hospital’s acting director, Mirjana Krčevinac, said the anaesthesia team continued the resuscitation after her arrival, but the patient died despite the efforts. “All prescribed legal measures and procedures were undertaken,” Krčevinac said, adding that an internal review of the quality of professional work had been ordered.
The woman was buried the following day, according to the initial report. The hospital’s statement established the basic sequence of events but did not explain what had caused the medical emergency or whether any error was suspected.
Her husband later appealed for restraint, saying emergency workers arrived within five minutes and that he had remained with his wife throughout the response. “The doctors did everything they could, and there is no one to blame,” he said.
He said resuscitation lasted about three hours, including attempts at the scene and in the hospital, and that staff members from emergency medicine and surgery continued working even when they were off duty. He also said some of the doctors had previously saved his wife and their child during an earlier pregnancy.2
The husband specifically objected to comments assigning responsibility before the internal review is complete. The hospital’s decision to examine the care provided leaves the circumstances open to assessment, but neither the statement nor the family’s account establishes that malpractice occurred.
