Three Arrested as Police Find Marijuana Lab and Gendarmerie Member Among Suspects
Police in Zrenjanin have arrested three people after discovering what authorities described as an illegal laboratory for cultivating marijuana. The suspects include Ž. G., 43, a member of Serbia’s Gendarmerie, as well as M. G., 64, and J. G., 63.

The operation was conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Zrenjanin. Authorities said the arrests were made on suspicion of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotics.

During searches of an apartment and other premises used by the suspects, police seized 81 plants resembling Indian hemp and approximately 7.5 kilograms of dried plant material believed to be marijuana. Officers also found weighing scales and equipment used to grow the drug, which investigators said pointed to a dedicated indoor production facility.

The police account identified the seized material as suspected marijuana rather than confirmed cannabis, reflecting that the case remains subject to further legal proceedings. No alternative account or response from the suspects was included in the reports.

On the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, all three suspects were placed in custody for up to 48 hours. They are expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor with criminal complaints, who will decide on the next steps in the case.
