The world is now questioning whether Brazil can still be considered a country governed by the rule of law.
How can a presidential candidate lose an election and, just SEVEN MINUTES after the official results are announced, be ordered to surrender his passports - ultimately feeling compelled to flee his own country?
To my American friends, let me be clear: What we are witnessing in Brazil bears alarming similarities to the authoritarian path Venezuela once followed.
And the more closely you examine the facts, the more you will understand why we are raising the alarm. Democracy cannot survive when political opposition is treated as a crime.
