I once again tried to get my friends to use Bitcoin’s Lightning Network for our daily expenses and holiday trips. It failed (again ^^) not because they weren’t interested, but because the setup felt overwhelming: too many settings, acronyms, and technical hurdles. For most newcomers, that’s where the journey ends.

I realized if the only easy path was frcitionless custodial, I might as well manage it for them - but that missed the point. I wanted them to feel the real power of Bitcoin: instant, low-cost programmable payments and, eventually, true self-custody.

But yeah, it seems the first step had to be effortless. They didn’t need to understand everything; they just needed a smooth way in. That’s why my m8 & friend [Pratik](Buho(https://waitlist.mybuho.de) - a account-based platform for cut the edge Lightning payments.

While working on Buho, another question kept coming back: What about everyday payments? Not scaling the world, just the simple act of paying with sats fast and reliable.

That question led us, three months ago, to create BuhoGO.

BuhoGO is a designed app for fast payments. It’s not aiming to do everything; it’s doing one thing exceptionally well: make frictionless payments. The key to this simplicity is Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC).

BuhoGO is where all the lessons we learned from Buho show up in their simplest, most usable form. It’s for those who want to pay with Bitcoin without getting lost.

## WTF is Nostr Wallet Connect?!

Most online services tie you into their system. You either adopt their way of doing things or you don’t use them at all.

NWC changes this. It’s a protocol that lets apps connect to existing Lightning wallets in a secure, standardized way. That means BuhoGO doesn’t hold your funds, doesn’t create another custodial layer, and doesn’t duplicate what already exists. Instead, it becomes a thin, minimal companion - a way to carry your existing wallets with you and pay quickly.

## A Moment That Made It Real

One of the first times I used BuhoGO outside of testing was at a café in [Arnhem, Netherlands](https://x.com/bitcoinstad)

I opened the app, tapped Send, scanned the QR aaand The payment cleared seconds later.

The cashier treated it like any other payment. In a short chat afterward, they mentioned roughly 50 people pay in Bitcoin each month, mostly via Lightning.

It was a small transaction, but it made the project feel worthwhile. For the first time, BuhoGO felt natural enough that I didn’t think about the process at all. That’s the goal.

# Our Roadmap for Improving and Maintaining

- We’re starting with people, not strings. An integrated address book will make sending sats feel like messaging: you think of a person, not a code. Regular payees - your friends, family, or the local café become one-tap flows that quietly remove the last bit of friction from daily use.

- Real-time notifications will close the loop on payments so both sides payer and payee—know instantly what happened.

- Security that doesn’t get in your way. We’re adding a lightweight, on-device PIN that keeps BuhoGO fast while giving you sensible protection.
