The zoombie apocalipse is now
In the recent years technology has been going a wrong path, and don’t get me wrong, I love technology, otherwise I wouldn’t be building my life around it since the early ages.
This problem, I think is not specific only to technology, it’s more of what we are becoming and what we are pursuing as humans. After all, tech is not inherently bad, it’s what us humans do with it that is.
Our lives are dependent on all kinds of technology and that’s great, the level of wealth mankind was able to produce and keep producing nowadays would not be possible whithout the constant growth and development of diferent types of applications of science (technology that is) that makes our lives easyer.
The Dune world is a inspiration for this article.
The zoombie apocalipse problem
The thing with technology is that the more easy our lifes get thanks to it, more we loose connection to the really important skills the brought us to this point.
With the advent of LLMs many people have been dragged into thinking that there is no more need to learn new thing and to acquire important skills, after all there is not that I can do that an AI can’t.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of problems with that perception. Being extremely reliant of those AI models is to be extremely reliant on the ones who create those models, companies that may not have any carings about truth, and probably will impose (as they are already doing) their on set of beliefs as the “truth” throught their LLMs.
The extreme dependency of humans on big tech companies is a bad pressage to us, it means that a small group of people have the power to control much of our lives daily.
Another problem created by that is the idiotization of the human mind. That effect is not a new one, it has been happening maybe since the advent of the first Iphone back in 2007.
Tercering the knowledge, putting our minds to extremes amounts of stimuli, using tech only to satify pleasures and silly, dumb social networks and gossip about super stars and celebrities. This is the description of the lives of many. The zoombie apocalipse is already here.
The other mankind
There will be, the way that have always had, people outside the box. In this case the difference is going to be really visible. While the majority of mankind has transformed into brainwashed zoombies behind a screen with their lifes destroyed, the other small part will be acquiring more and more skills.
It will really be visible, the ones who acquire valuable skills, that can do things with their own knowldge and minds, whithout having to user AI, big tech tools, and that really understand the underlying principles that make the world works will be a different kind of breed, kings among mortals.
