Hi fellow nostriches. I’ve been a bit quiet here these past few weeks, but I’m still working on something great. My favorite co-working space @Wonders of Work , where @Sebastix and I also host the Dutch Nostr events, is integrating Nostr into their website 🎉

This means co-workers can easily onboard to Nostr using the Openbunker e-mail bridge. They’ll also have the option to migrate their LinkedIn bio to Nostr and publish blogs and calendar items on the website via Nostr. Wonders of Work already accepts Bitcoin. So soon, co-workers will be able to pay for their lunch and beer with zaps!

@Iftakhar Hasnayen Abir , @rafid and @Quentin are already busy coding. All FOSS, of course. We’re presenting at the FOSDEM Fringe @opensourcevillage , something @xdamman and I are also looking into, so we can make our developments available to other co-working spaces.

I’ll update you regularly in the coming weeks.

DO NOT GET SCAMMED: A cautionary tale

When you buy and sell stuff using nostr and nostr-based apps, make sure you are not getting scammed. Personal experience story time below.

Sites can pick up market listing notes and show them in their website and put a “buy now” button but the payment doesn’t actually go to the seller. It goes somewhere else, who knows where.

I had this happen to me. A customer messaged me and said they bought my hand knit nostr beanie hat on a site and sent me the LN invoice that they paid. It shows that the invoice is paid, but it doesn’t go to my wallet. I did not get paid.

As someone who has been in the community a long time, I know that the buyer-seller relationshiop is precarious and based in trust. In the moment, I believe the buyer and give the benefit of the doubt that something is wrong with the site. I reach out to the site owner to find out what’s happening because the site is absolutely unusable for me. I see my items listed on their website and have absolutely no way to removing them. I worry that someone else will come across a hat that they like and they hit buy, only to send their money to someone else.

The site owner said they will compensate me for this mishap. As a show of good faith, I shipped the hat to the customer so that he would not sour to the idea of buying on nostr. Imagine if you were this customer who paid 107k sats and ended up with no product? He would likely never buy anything from any of us again.

At the time of writing, it still hasn’t been resolved between me and the site. They have not paid me like they said they would but I’m giving some grace since it is a holiday weekend.

I had to talk about it now though. It has been a cloud over me the last few days. I hope that holiday shopping on nostr will be very successful for all sellers this year so I felt responsible for putting this message out so that we can continue to build confidence is the nostr marketplace.

The moral of the story:
When you buy on nostr, make sure you are in touch with the seller and that you are paying the seller. Do your due diligence.

I would have been well within my rights to say “too bad so sad. I didn’t get paid. you got scammed by that site. bye.” If you were a buyer and didn’t do your due diligence to check that your money is going to the right place, you may not get what you paid for and that is perfectly reasonable within the realm of commerce on nostr.

If you have read this far, please share/boost this post. I don’t want any one, buyer or seller, to get scammed shopping on nostr.

12. It takes time to grow in Nostr ⏳

Growing an account on Nostr is a manual process.

There’s no algo that consistently displays your posts to people who don’t follow you. Everything on Nostr is earned. Here’s what you should do:

  1. ENGAGE: No one is going to see your posts when you have a small account. To get people to notice you without an algo, you need to comment on their posts. Engagement is low for most people, so your effort in this will go further than on other platforms.

  2. ZAPVERTIZE: You could run a big campaign, but you find success if you use your zap message to make it clear what you do. Give people a reason to click on your profile. Your Zap Message is more visible than any comment. If you’re the top zap, your message will be seen by everyone who sees that post on some clients. Hunt for low cost, valuable opportunities here.

  3. SPONSOR AN INFLUENCER: There are have’s and have not’s when it comes to reach on Nostr without as much middle ground or social mobility. If you are a business, I recommend sending product to someone with a bigger reach to repost your posts. Value for Value and Repost Culture are core to Nostr and there’s no Algo score that you would be disrupting for them. Getting reposted by a big account consistently will take you far.

Otherwise the advice is the same for most social media growth. There’s no substitute for consistent content production.

There are hacks, but overnight success doesn’t exist on Nostr. The beauty is that the results from all the work you put in, you own.

🌐 Relay Updates and Releases

1. Nosflare - v8.9.23

Nosflare is a serverless Nostr relay built on Cloudflare’s infrastructure, designed for fast, resilient event storage and delivery using its custom CFNDB system. In this release, it removes outdated D1 database code, adds an option to disable ConnectionDO sharding, and updates the documentation with clearer sharding explanations.
