If you travel and want mobile data without handing over a passport scan, here is a short checklist we wish more people ran through before buying any travel eSIM.
1. Check your phone first
Your phone has to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. On most phones you can see this in the mobile network or SIM settings. If you cannot add an eSIM there, no provider can fix that for you.
2. Know that “data-only” means no phone number
Data-only eSIMs give you internet, not a number. Calls and messages work through apps over data. If you need to receive SMS codes, keep your home SIM active in the second slot.
3. Ask what the provider actually asks for
Some travel eSIM sellers ask for ID, some ask for an account with lots of personal details, and some ask for very little. Read the checkout page before you pay, not after.
4. Look at payment options
Card is the usual option. If you prefer to pay with crypto, check exactly which coins are accepted. Not every shop that says “crypto” takes the coin you hold.
5. Check what happens to unused credit
Some plans expire after a set number of days. If you travel a few times a year, a balance that does not expire can matter more than the headline price.
Where we fit
Silent eSIM sells data-only prepaid eSIMs for travel in around 200 countries. No KYC or ID is required. You can pay by card or crypto: Bitcoin, USDT or Monero (XMR). Lightning is not accepted. Your balance does not expire.
Whichever provider you choose, run the five checks above first. They take two minutes and save a lot of hassle at the airport.
