Who wore it better? - Political Propaganda in the Buckeye State

Ground Zero

I live in a very purple county in a very purple state. What’s that translate to in day to day living? Sooooooo much mail. I would like to share one piece of recent mail that made me laugh from each side of an election. Presumably, they may make you laugh as well.

The Grand ol’ Party

Representing the right side of the aisle, we have an ad that I find kind of silly. It looks like propaganda. What’s probably most disturbing to me about this is that I can’t actually figure out if it’s supposed to be silly or not.

Then I turned it over. This drives me bonkers, and it’s increasingly becoming common among political folk. Of course, I’m talking about using an adjective as a noun. “Illegals” cannot be plural because illegal cannot be singular. In the English, you can have illegal cucumbers or protractors or even planets, but you can’t have illegals.

It’s just nonsensical. The only thing it says to a guy like me, is that the writer doesn’t really have a strong handle on the English language, which is ironic, given what I think he’s trying to express! A fun follow up question someone should have asked when proofreading this add is whether or not the writer was referring to legal illegals or illegal illegals. I think at that point, he could have clarified that he meant criminals.

The Eeyores

Let’s step to the left and see what’s being distributed. To me this one is less fun and games, and far more sinister. My wife literally opened this up and started reading it to the family because it was from the “Center for Voter Information” and clearly looked like it was just listing where candidates stood on the issues. At first it worked. I still haven’t heard any convincing reason to keep the Epstein files secret, and I didn’t know where these two politicians stood on the issue. But before even reading the second question out loud, the Mrs. stopped, knowing that we were dealing with obvious propaganda.

I know that there are senators who want to keep the Epstein files secret, despite public sentiment. I’ve never heard a senator say they want to increase the debt to benefit billionaires. That’s just not what any senator is going to say they are all about. This one doesn’t look like propaganda, because it so obviously is propaganda.

But then again, is it all that obvious? Do people actually fall for this stuff? Are there really people in my neighborhood that dumb? I just can’t believe it. Also, who wore it better? Do you guys think clumsy and goofy or sinister and disguised makes for more entertaining political theater.
