The Cypherpunk Manifesto

This manifesto outlines the core principles of the Cypherpunk ethos applied to Bitcoin usage. It covers self-custody, node operation, privacy, open source software, and education as the pillars of individual sovereignty. It argues that resistance against control is not a pose, but a daily practice.
The Cypherpunk Manifesto

Why Bitcoin is not an investment vehicle, but a tool for personal sovereignty

by Alien Investor

Bitcoin is not a product.

Bitcoin is not an “investment vehicle.”

Bitcoin is a tool for sovereignty.

The Bitcoin ethos originates from the Cypherpunk movement: resistance against control, surveillance, and external authority.

This is not a pose. It is a practice.

────────────────

  1. Hold Your Own Keys

A fundamental principle of Cypherpunks is sovereignty.

By controlling your own private keys, you control your Bitcoin.

Whoever surrenders their keys, surrenders responsibility. And responsibility that is surrendered does not come back.

────────────────

  1. Run a Bitcoin Node

Running your own node strengthens the network through decentralization.

You become a direct network participant. You can verify transactions independently, without having to trust third parties.

Not “someone tells you what is true.” But: you verify it yourself.

────────────────

  1. Commit to Privacy

Privacy is crucial to protect personal freedom. It prevents excessive surveillance by governments or corporations.

Without privacy, there is no free decision. Without free decision, there is no sovereignty.

────────────────

  1. Support Open Source

Contribute to open-source projects.

This preserves the Cypherpunk spirit of collaboration. It helps build robust, decentralized tools that respect and protect autonomy.

Trust no code that you cannot verify.

────────────────

  1. Educate Yourself and Others

Ensure that you understand the Bitcoin basics.

Share this knowledge. We need a society that understands and respects fundamental Cypherpunk principles.

The more informed and active participants, the stronger the movement.

────────────────

Verdict

By following these practices, we can preserve the original Cypherpunk ethos.

We ensure that Bitcoin remains true to its founding principles: decentralization, privacy, and the empowerment of the individual.

Decentralization is not a feature. Privacy is not a bonus. Sovereignty is a decision.

“Trust no one. Manage your finances yourself.”
