Supernatural Drama

Pagans — Netflix
Status: In Casting

Steven Yeun — Emmy winner for Netflix’s Beef — is set to star in and executive produce Pagans, a supernatural drama from Say Nothing creator Joshua Zetumer. The project triggered a massive bidding war among 15–18 studios before Netflix won it with a straight-to-series order. Yeun is the second major addition after executive producers Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg came aboard in December.

Theme: The uncanny pressing in on the ordinary; a prestige supernatural drama with the literary weight of Zetumer’s Say Nothing pedigree behind it.

Key creatives: Joshua Zetumer serves as showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg (Goddard Textiles), Jonathan van Tulleken, Erica Kay, and Yeun and Christina Oh for Celadon Pictures executive produce.

Literary Adaptation

Enigma Variations — Netflix
Status: In Casting

Netflix’s limited-series adaptation of André Aciman’s bestselling novel has completed its principal cast. Sarah Pidgeon — Emmy-nominated for FX’s Love Story — joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Alicia Vikander, and Riley Keough as the final female lead, playing Chloe, one of the transformative loves across Paul’s ten-year emotional odyssey. The ensemble also includes Juliana Canfield (Succession), Devon Terrell, Nicholas Podany, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins.

Theme: Masculinity, sexuality, and the archaeology of desire — who we become through the people who undo us, and whether we ever recognize the one when they arrive.

Key creatives: Written by Amanda Kate Shuman; directed by Oliver Hermanus. Sarah Pidgeon, Juliana Canfield, and Peter Hermann round out a cast led by Taylor-Johnson.

Sci-Fi Franchise Expansion

Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery — Netflix
Status: Greenlit

Netflix has officially greenlit Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a spinoff set in the universe of the hit series Manifest. The announcement came on August 28 at 8:28 a.m. — a date the franchise has used for major reveals since 2021. The new series follows survivors of a plane crash in Denver who emerge with no memory of their past lives; a social worker and a Homeland Security agent team up to solve the mystery, only to find that the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

Theme: Collective amnesia as metaphor — identity stripped bare, the fragility of who we think we are, and the creeping discovery that ordinary lives contain impossible stakes.

Key creatives: Original Manifest creator Jeff Rake returns as co-creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer alongside original co-EPs Margaret Easley and Laura Putney. Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment also executive produce. Warner Bros. TV is the studio.

Dark Comedy Murder Mystery

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone — Prime Video
Status: Greenlit

Amazon MGM Studios has ordered a series adaptation of Benjamin Stevenson’s bestselling novel, with Penn Badgley set to star as earnest amateur sleuth Ernest Cunningham. The project was previously in development at HBO before the current order. David Hemingson — writer of The Holdovers — will serve as showrunner, bringing the same blend of warmth and mordant wit that defined his Oscar-nominated film work.

Theme: The murder mystery genre turned inside out: a comedy about a family where everyone is guilty of something, and the most dangerous room is any room with relatives in it.

Key creatives: David Hemingson serves as showrunner and executive producer. Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, and Jeanne Snow of Made Up Stories executive produce alongside Badgley and author Benjamin Stevenson. Fifth Season and Made Up Stories co-produce.

Adult Literary Anthology

Untitled Roald Dahl Series — Netflix
Status: In Production

Netflix has assembled a starry cast for an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s adult short stories — a lesser-known body of work compared to his children’s books. The series follows a young British couple stranded in a faded seaside town as they navigate conmen, adulterers, murderous mothers, and snake charmers. Nicola Coughlan, Naomi Scott, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Toby Jones, and Clarke Peters lead the ensemble.

Theme: Dahl’s adult fiction at its most macabre: the veneer of English propriety cracked open to reveal greed, desire, cruelty, and the very dark comedy lurking beneath respectable surfaces.

Key creatives: Written by Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once). Executive produced by Gabriel Silver and Suzanne Mackie for Orchid Pictures. Directed by Runyararo Mapfumo and Ben Gregor.

Stephen King Horror

Crouch End — Prime Video
Status: In Casting

Prime Video has greenlit a six-part limited series adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 horror short story set in the real North London district of Crouch End — the first King adaptation to be produced in the UK. Casting is underway with significant industry interest. The story follows a couple visiting London who find that Crouch End is not quite the neighborhood it appears to be.

Theme: Lovecraftian horror transplanted into a recognizable London suburb: the city as an ancient, hostile organism, and the violence that ordinary geography can conceal.

Key creatives: Adapted by Paul Tomalin (Bodies). Directed by Tom Shankland (Berlin Noir, The Serpent). Produced by Mammoth Screen and Fifth Season. Executive produced by Tomalin, Shankland, Damien Timmer, Rebecca Keane, and Ben Irving.

Spy Thriller

Disavowed — Apple TV+
Status: In Casting

Norman Reedus has joined James Marsden in Apple TV+‘s thriller series Disavowed, originally announced in May with Marsden in the lead. Reedus’s role is being kept under wraps. The first two episodes will be directed by Michelle MacLaren, one of prestige television’s most sought-after directors.

Theme: Off-the-books intelligence operations, the cost of loyalty to institutions that discard their own — the moral wilderness of men doing dangerous work in the dark.

Key creatives: Created by Marcum and Holloway, who also serve as executive producers. Tom Spezialy and James Marsden executive produce. Michelle MacLaren directs the first two episodes and executive produces via her overall deal with Apple TV+. Blue Marble Pictures produces with Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity.
