Mr. Jordan, why?

Hello, earthlings.

I’m beyond angry. I’m genuinely infuriated after finishing Lord of Chaos.

It took me longer than usual to get through it, not only because I’ve been putting together a bunch of blog entries (like this one or this one) and therefore reading quite a lot already, but because, well, life. Pretending to be human and all that takes a lot out of me.

But this? This book was beyond me.

I’m so pissed.

I wanted to box everyone’s ears about 50,000 times. So many characters were stubborn at the same time that it stopped being compelling and became genuinely annoying. Lord of Chaos? Gee whiz. More like Lord of Stubbornness. Or something. I don’t even have the energy to come up with anything witty because I was disappointed in almost everyone.

Jesus Christ, their thoughts, at times, were so boring. 🥹

Not only were most of them thinking stupidly, they were acting stupidly too. Why? Supposedly, the stakes were higher than ever, but I could barely care about anyone’s fate because of the aforementioned stubbornness.

I get it: they’re young, they’re figuring themselves out, emotions are complicated, etc. But would it really kill them to be just a little clearer about what they intend to do? There are so many characters acting the same way, so many threads, and by the end I just felt exhausted rather than invested.

After the previous book, I felt a bit robbed. This one was just so… sigh.

Anyway, I’ll see what happens in the next one. And no, I’m not invested in their love lives at all, especially if this is how they’re going to be handled. For the love of God, I came for the fantasy, the action, the magic, the plotting, the blood—not a never-ending will-they-won’t-they situation.

Thank you, but no.

Another sigh.
