SHARKS, SHARKS, SHARKS

Hello frens!

Over the past few weeks my house has been in full shark‑movie mode. It all started with Devil’s Mouth and I don’t know why, but I got completely hooked. After that we watched: Under Paris, Jaws 3‑D, Sharknado (the first one), The Shallows, Deep Blue Sea, Creature, and The Reef: Stalked.

Some were good, some were bad, some were very meh. In no particular order:

🦈 Creature: A TV mini‑series that surprised me by starring Kim Cattrall and even Giancarlo Esposito (who almost flew under the radar because he wasn’t doing his usual “badass” thing). I got so many laughs from this one. It could’ve used tighter editing, but the actors made something out of almost nothing. The creature itself was fun and cheeky.

🦈 Under Paris: Started as a mildly eco‑conscious thriller, then jumped to “sharks are evolving and attacking people in the middle of Paris” way too fast. Kind of fun, but also a bit meh.

🦈 Jaws 3‑D: It could never live up to the original, but they sure tried. The ‘80s tongue‑in‑cheek humour saved it, and I barely recognised Dennis Quaid (he’s so ingrained in my mind from The Parent Trap that I thought he was a lookalike). Poor dolphins at that water park, though.

🦈 Sharknado: Logic is out the window, obviously. And to be honest, I found it kind of boring. The editing was so obvious it pulled me out more than flying sharks. A few laughs here and there, but at least I have my “I watched Sharknado” badge.

🦈 The Shallows: This one was good, really good. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Contrary to what most people say, I could not care less about the seagull (poor thing, of course), but Blake Lively really made me feel everything she went through. Horrified the whole movie, and the scares were genuinely effective.

🦈 Deep Blue Sea: Weird in the best way. Stellan Skarsgård was there and he wasn’t the bad guy, which felt odd. Like The Shallows, I wasn’t sure what would happen next (or maybe I was just desensitised by then). Pretty entertaining, good sharks, of course, and everything that can go wrong does. Still a classic in my book.

🦈 The Reef: Stalked: Had potential, but it was bad. Not much else to say.

Have you watched any of these? Which shark movie do you think is secretly the best?

See you later alligator 🐊

PS I don’t feel like going to the beach anytime soon.
