How to make a Discord banner and profile layout that actually match

A practical guide to Discord banner sizes, picking a palette from your pfp, and lining up your banner, bio and accent colors so the whole profile reads as one look.

A good Discord profile is less about one perfect image and more about four pieces agreeing with each other: the pfp, the banner, the bio and the profile colors. When they share a palette and a mood, even simple images look intentional. Here is a step by step way to get there.

Know the sizes before you crop

Discord shows the banner at roughly a 5:2 ratio. Working at 680 by 240 pixels (or 1360 by 480 for extra sharpness) avoids surprise crops. Keep the important part of the image in the middle third, because the top left corner sits under your pfp circle on the profile card. The pfp itself is shown as a circle, so center the face or subject and leave a little space around it.

Start from the pfp, not the banner

Pick the pfp first, since it shows up everywhere: chat, member lists, replies. Then pull two or three colors from it. Any free color picker works. Choose one main color, one darker shade for contrast, and one light accent. That small palette is what you will build everything else around.

Find a banner that shares the palette

Search for banners using the colors and the mood together, for example “dusty blue night sky banner” or “warm beige film grain banner”. Scenery, textures and soft gradients usually work better than busy art, because the banner sits behind your name and badges. If you want a matching set with a friend, pick banners from the same series or scene so the pair reads as one picture split in two.

Set the profile colors to match

If you have access to profile themes, set the primary and accent colors from your palette instead of the defaults. A common trick is using the darker shade as the primary color and the light accent as the secondary, so text stays readable. Check the result on both light and dark mode before you settle.

Keep the bio short and in the same mood

A layout is the bio formatting: a short line, a divider, a few details. Two or three lines usually look cleaner than a wall of symbols. Use dividers that render on every device, and match any emoji to your palette. A blue palette with one pink heart emoji pulls the eye right away, which is fine if that is the point.

Quick checklist

  1. Pfp chosen and centered for a circle crop.
  2. Two or three colors picked from the pfp.
  3. Banner in the same palette, subject in the middle third.
  4. Profile colors set from the palette and checked in light and dark mode.
  5. Bio kept to a few lines with dividers that render everywhere.

Swap one piece at a time when you change your look, and the profile keeps feeling like yours.
