Paths to Articles (1)

Paths to Articles (1)

Paths to Articles (1) The author reflects on his early journalism career, finding the experiences of reporting to be more engaging than the final articles. He recounts two specific assignments: one in Trgovište in the early 1970s, dealing with local political disputes, and another in Caparić in 1978, focusing on a 17-year-old youth leader and the lack of community facilities. These journeys involved challenging travel, unique accommodations, and complex local politics.

  • The author finds the process of reporting more interesting than the published texts, especially when recalling past experiences.
  • An early 1970s assignment in Trgovište involved covering disputes between a youth leader and other socio-political organizations, with the youth leader walking miles to work.
  • In 1978, reporting in Caparić, a village near Ljubovija, focused on a 17-year-old youth leader and the community’s lack of meeting spaces and recreational facilities.
  • The Caparić youth organization had proposed to a congress that they lacked a place to meet, socialize, and “make love.”
  • The reporting trips involved challenging logistics, including difficult travel, unusual accommodations (like staying in a family home), and dealing with local officials.
  • The author notes the contrast between the past and present, questioning the current state of affairs in these villages.
