Anthropic is widening a feature that started as a convenience play into something more ambitious: turning spoken conversations with Claude into a pathway for heavier-duty workplace tasks. The update signals a broader shift in AI voice tools, from fast answers toward assistants that can reason more deeply and act on a user’s behalf.

Until now, Claude’s voice mode had been limited to Haiku, Anthropic’s faster and lighter model. With this update, the company is extending voice mode to its more capable Opus and Sonnet models, a move that suggests users were asking more from voice interactions than simple back-and-forth queries. As The Verge reports, Anthropic found that people were using voice mode to work “through real business problems,” even though Haiku “kept conversations quick, but not always deep.”

That helps explain the company’s emphasis on more advanced tasks. Opus and Sonnet are described as models “designed for hard problem-solving,” capable not only of producing more complex analysis but also of taking actions such as turning a conversation into a one-page pitch or rearranging calendar plans when travel runs late. Users can also switch between text and voice, and between models, within the same conversation, making the system more flexible for different kinds of work.

TechCrunch frames the change in similarly practical terms, saying the update will let users “reschedule your meeting or draft an email.” In that sense, both accounts point to the same underlying strategy: voice is no longer just an interface for asking questions, but a front end for getting office tasks done.

Anthropic is also expanding voice mode beyond English, adding broader support for languages including French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Taken together, the changes show Anthropic betting that voice becomes more valuable when paired with stronger models and tighter links to everyday productivity tools.
