Meta’s Mac AI App Turns Productivity Into an Ad Business Tool
Meta is bringing its AI assistant to the Mac, but the launch is about more than a desktop chatbot. It is a bid to make Meta AI a daily work tool for the creators and small businesses whose activity ultimately feeds the company’s advertising machine.
On Wednesday, Meta unveiled a dedicated Mac app that lets users share a window with the assistant, allowing it to answer questions, suggest changes or create material based on what is visible on screen. The app also supports dictation across other applications — features that position Meta alongside desktop AI rivals already competing for control of users’ workflows.
The company’s bigger play is aimed at businesses and creators. Meta AI can now connect with Instagram and Facebook accounts, ad campaigns and Google Workspace, drawing on performance data to recommend what to post next. That convenience carries a caveat. According to Meta’s privacy policy, data shared with the company — including information from business Google accounts — may be used to train future AI systems and target advertising. Meta offers an Incognito Mode for chats it says it cannot access, but details remain scarce on whether the more deeply connected business tools will receive comparable protections.
