Over Labor Day weekend, Donald Trump turned Truth Social into a ten-hour spectacle, sending 60 messages in 10 hours and 41 minutes from his Bedminster golf club. The barrage featured AI-enhanced scenes of Trump as warrior, conqueror and superhero: looming over Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in hockey gear, attacking Iran, riding with George Washington and declaring, “The Moon Is Ours.”

The stream also carried a sweeping financial boast. In one image, Trump claimed: “I’ve made Hundreds of Billions of Dollars on Stocks, and many other type Holdings, for the U.S.A.” The post offered no evidence; reporting noted the administration’s Intel stake was valued at more than $50 billion.

That fantasy of command landed against a harsher political backdrop. With gasoline averaging $4.15 a gallon and just 33% of adults approving of Trump’s job performance in a July AP-NORC poll, Republican strategist Kevin Madden warned that the voters likely to decide the midterms “are not going to be won over with memes.” Former Biden aide Andrew Bates called the images “fever dreams” from a president who should be focused on governing.

The criticism extended online. Yann LeCun reposted a clip branding Trump the “Dumbest. President. Ever.” over his comments about ending trade with Europe. In a separate repost, LeCun amplified an allegation that Trump had used the presidency to enrich himself and his family.

Trump’s defenders read the same feed differently. Former campaign aide Alex Brusevitz said Americans value the president’s “authenticity and transparency,” while the White House called Truth Social Trump’s unfiltered voice and “the most effective tool” for advancing the MAGA agenda. The divide is now stark: to supporters, a deliberately provocative digital performance; to critics, an omnipotence meme struggling to outrun inflation, war and voter unease.
