Reports first pointed to a widening Apple-LG smart-home effort, with leaked imagery offering an early look at devices expected to sit around Apple’s forthcoming home platform.

The partnership, according to Bloomberg reporting cited by The Verge, is structured as a “second-party” arrangement: the products would carry LG branding but connect to Apple’s rumoured smart-home hub. The initial range is said to include a lock, video doorbell and thermostat, with an outdoor camera, floodlight camera and deadbolt lock also in development. Several devices are expected to support Thread and Matter, while the lock could use ultra-wideband technology to unlock as an owner approaches.

Apple then put a date on the broader push, announcing a New York event for October 13 at 9 a.m. ET under the tagline “Welcome home.” The invitation does not name products, but the timing tracks closely with reports that Apple will unveil a Siri AI-enabled hub with a six-inch display, designed for a wall or tabletop.

The event could also bring a refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV, turning the launch into more than a single-device reveal. The underlying tension is whether Apple can translate its ecosystem advantage into a coherent home strategy after delays reportedly pushed back the hub’s debut. With Siri’s upgraded AI functionality only recently arriving in beta, the October event looks like Apple’s attempt to show that its long-promised home reboot has finally moved from rumour to rollout.
