Amazon Turns Alexa Into a Bigger Shopping Concierge Before the Holidays
Ahead of the holiday shopping rush, Amazon has expanded Alexa with more than 100 shopping-focused capabilities, pushing the voice assistant further beyond simple product searches.

The update lets users create, view and edit shopping lists, including registering lists through Alexa. It also gives shoppers control over recurring orders: a customer can, for example, ask the assistant to change a delivery from monthly to every three months.

Amazon is also putting more post-purchase work into Alexa’s hands. Users can update delivery instructions, change an address or add drop-off details, while the assistant can answer questions about Prime and Audible memberships, billing and payment problems.

The rollout follows a broader AI-shopping push by Amazon this year, including a shopping assistant and alerts for new products and offers. The company says use of its agentic features has grown eightfold since the start of the year, and that more than 400 million consumers used Alexa for shopping over the past 12 months.

The timing is deliberate: as holiday orders accelerate, Amazon is positioning Alexa not merely as a way to fill a cart, but as a tool for managing the messier details that come after checkout.
