Cover letter opening and closing lines that do not sound generic (free copy)
Hiring managers read the first two lines. Skip “I am writing to apply for”. Use one of these shapes.
Opening: result first
“At [last employer] I [specific result with a number]. I would like to do the same for [company] as your [role].”
Opening: why them
“[Company]’s [specific product/post/project] is why I am applying. In my last role I [relevant thing], and that is the work I want to do more of.”
Closing
“I can send a short example of [work] if useful. I am available to talk [days/times].”
Resume bullet formula: verb + what + how much + how. Example: “Cut onboarding time from 10 days to 6 by rewriting the checklist and training two new hires.”
