Three late-invoice emails for freelancers that get paid (free copy)
Chasing an unpaid invoice is awkward. Send these in order, three to seven days apart. Replace the brackets.
1. Friendly nudge (day 1 after due date)
Subject: Quick check on invoice [#]
Hi [Name], a quick note that invoice [#] for [amount] was due on [date]. Here is the link to pay again in case it got buried: [link]. If it is already on the way, thank you and ignore this.
2. Clear follow-up (day 7)
Subject: Invoice [#] is now 7 days overdue
Hi [Name], I have not seen payment for invoice [#] ([amount], due [date]). Could you tell me when I can expect it? If something is wrong with the invoice, reply and I will fix it today.
3. Final notice (day 14)
Subject: Final notice: invoice [#]
Hi [Name], invoice [#] is 14 days overdue. Please pay by [date] to avoid a late fee of [fee/terms in your contract] and a pause on further work. Payment link: [link].
Tips: always put the due date and a pay link in every message, keep the tone flat and factual, and write down the date you sent each one.
