‘Widow’s Bay’ Sweeps Emmys as ‘The Pitt’ Holds Drama Crown
Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay emerged as the defining winner of the 78th Emmy Awards, collecting 14 awards in total after combining six prizes from the main ceremony with eight technical-category wins. The debut horror satire won “best comedy series,” ahead of HBO’s Hacks, and its success extended across acting and creative categories.

The series’ haul gave it a broader edge over the night’s other leading programs. Matthew Rhys won comedy lead actor for Widow’s Bay, while Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root took the supporting comedy acting prizes. The show also won for comedy writing and directing. Rhys added a second leading-actor Emmy for Netflix’s The Monster in Me, becoming the first performer reported to have won two lead-acting categories in the same year.

HBO nevertheless retained a central place in the awards race. Medical drama The Pitt won best drama series for a second consecutive year, with Noah Wyle again named best actor in a drama. HBO’s DTF St. Louis won best limited series; both programs finished with seven awards, matching Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show.

Other acting honors reflected a mix of repeat recognition and career landmarks. Jean Smart won her fifth Emmy for playing Deborah Vance in Hacks, becoming the first actress to win comedy lead actress for every season of the series. Sally Field won limited-series or movie actress for Netflix’s Remarkably Bright Creatures.

The ceremony also included memorial tributes to Dolly Parton, Rob Reiner and Catherine O’Hara. Michael J. Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his work encouraging Parkinson’s disease research.
