A news helicopter crashed in a Los Angeles-area parking lot while covering a traffic collision in Chatsworth, killing three people and injuring a fourth, according to accounts of the incident. The aircraft was providing broadcast services for NBC4 Los Angeles and Telemundo 52 when it went down near a storage facility, where the impact left it destroyed.

The two reports describe the same fast-moving sequence: local media had gathered to cover a collision in which a pickup truck struck a bus, and people at the scene reported hearing a loud explosion before seeing a fire involving vehicles, containers and helicopter wreckage. Fire officials said four people were assessed, with three pronounced dead at the scene and one taken to hospital in an unknown condition.

One account identifies reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw among those killed. Moreno had worked with Angel City Air’s helicopter team since 2010, while Marciniw had flown professionally with her since 2023. The other account underscores the uncertainty in the immediate aftermath, noting that authorities had not initially confirmed the identities of those aboard even as police confirmed the aircraft belonged to a media outlet.

NBC4 anchor Colleen Williams told viewers the newsroom had lost contact with the crew before confirmation of the crash. NBC4 and Telemundo 52 later issued condolences, saying: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives.”

Both accounts say the cause remains unknown. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are expected to investigate, as Los Angeles broadcasters continue to rely on helicopters to cover breaking news across the city’s crowded airspace.
