Lula Chooses Flow Podcast Over Globo’s Final Debate
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will appear on the Flow Podcast on Thursday rather than join TV Globo’s final first-round presidential debate, placing a major campaign event in direct competition with the broadcaster’s prime-time programme.
Coverage grouped under the Brazil Left perspective focused most plainly on the consequence for Globo, reporting Lula’s “absence from Globo debate.” The report did not provide further detail on the president’s alternative appearance or his campaign rationale.
The Brazil Right account described the decision more as a scheduling and audience strategy. It reported that Lula informed Globo he would not attend before Flow announced the interview on social media, with the podcast scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m. and Globo’s debate set for 9:30 p.m., after Jornal Nacional.
That account says the timing means Flow will “dispute the attention of the audience” with the televised debate. It also places the choice in the context of Lula’s prior campaign approach: during a Band debate, he gave an exclusive interview to Record at the same time.
The contrast between the accounts is chiefly one of emphasis rather than the underlying event. Both establish that Lula will miss Globo’s debate. The more detailed report presents the Flow booking as a repeat of a tested digital-media strategy, noting that Lula’s 2022 Flow interview at times drew about 1.09 million live viewers, above the previous programme peak recorded during Jair Bolsonaro’s appearance.
Other candidates expected at Globo’s debate include Flávio Bolsonaro, Ronaldo Caiado, Augusto Cury and Romeu Zema, according to the Brazil Right report.
