Dallagnol Senate Seat Remains in Limbo as TSE Delays Ruling
Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court, or TSE, has postponed its judgment on the validity of Deltan Dallagnol’s candidacy for a Paraná Senate seat, with no new hearing date announced. A report from the Brazil Right perspective similarly characterizes the development simply as a postponement of the case, underscoring that the court has not yet delivered a final decision.
The Brazil Left account places the delay within a longer-running dispute over Dallagnol’s eligibility. It says his defence requested the suspension and notes that he won 2.9 million votes, or 25.14%, for Paraná’s second Senate seat in the October 4 election.
That account also highlights the challenge brought by the Paraná branch of the Workers’ Party, or PT. It links the current case to the TSE’s 2023 decision to revoke Dallagnol’s federal deputy mandate, after the court concluded that he had resigned from the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office while facing disciplinary proceedings in a way that would avoid the Clean Record Law’s consequences.
The accounts therefore converge on the immediate point: the ruling has been deferred. Their emphasis differs. The Brazil Right item records the procedural pause, while the Brazil Left report portrays it as the latest turn in what it calls a “deadlock,” citing a sequence of conflicting decisions by Paraná’s regional electoral court and TSE justices during the campaign.
Until the TSE rules on the merits, the validity of Dallagnol’s Senate seat remains unsettled.
