Federal Police inquiry ordered as threats against Dino escalate
Supreme Court President Edson Fachin has asked the Federal Police to investigate threats directed at Justice Flávio Dino, according to reporting grouped under Brazil Left. Reporting grouped under Brazil Right similarly says the inquiry followed Dino’s disclosure of threats against Supreme Court members on social media, describing some messages as threats of execution.
The two accounts therefore align on the central development: the court has referred the matter to federal investigators. The Brazil Right report, however, provides a fuller account of the alleged scope and the court’s response. It says a Supreme Court security assessment identified “thousands of messages” referring to an invasion of the court, shootings, explosions and the lynching of justices.
In a statement cited by that report, the court said a technical security assessment of the identified threats had been sent to the Federal Police “for awareness and adoption of the pertinent measures, within the scope of its responsibilities.” Fachin said the court remained attentive to the security of its justices and was coordinating with relevant authorities.
Dino, according to the same account, argued that the hostile messages were driven by repeated falsehoods intended to provoke violence. “If people disagree with judicial decisions, they can appeal to the competent panels,” he said, adding that disagreement did not justify killing a judge or encouraging persecution and aggression.
The report also places the episode in a wider context: Electoral Court President Nunes Marques reportedly requested a separate Federal Police response after more than 30,000 threats and attacks against electoral justice staff, whose families were given security and psychological support.
