Fachin’s approval puts Reag founder at the center of Banco Master inquiry
Supreme Federal Court President Edson Fachin approved a plea agreement with João Carlos Mansur, founder and former controller of Reag Investimentos, in an investigation involving Banco Master and its owner, Daniel Vorcaro. The agreement places Mansur in a position to provide investigators with information about alleged financial irregularities while facing a proposed 40 million reais fine.
The account from the left describes Mansur’s cooperation primarily as a route into what it calls the network of funds that allegedly supported the Banco Master scheme. It says the agreement is expected to identify funds and companies allegedly used to divert resources and artificially inflate assets. Mansur was a target of Operation Compliance Zero, which examines suspected fraud involving Banco Master, and Operation Carbono Oculto, an investigation into alleged links with organized crime.
The account from the right concentrates on Reag’s alleged role as Banco Master’s financial operator. It says the firm administered purported shell funds that received money from companies tied to the bank, then allegedly inflated fund-share values before reinvesting the money in Master certificates of deposit. In that account, the arrangement amounted to an alleged accounting disguise that concealed losses and projected liquidity and solvency.
Both accounts frame the agreement as potentially significant for federal investigators, though neither presents the allegations as adjudicated findings. The right-leaning report compares Mansur’s cooperation with an earlier agreement involving financial operator Antonio Carlos Freixo Júnior, saying both could help authorities trace the path of money through the transactions under review.
Mansur’s testimony may therefore help investigators connect the alleged fund structures described in one account with the financial flows detailed in the other. The approval of a plea deal is not, by itself, a determination of guilt; it gives prosecutors and police a possible new source of evidence in the continuing case.
