Formula 1 has extended the São Paulo Grand Prix contract through 2035, adding five years to the previous agreement and keeping the race at Interlagos. The deal also calls for São Paulo’s city government to continue investing in the José Carlos Pace circuit, with modernization intended to maintain or improve both track standards and the spectator experience.

Accounts of the renewal share a positive assessment of Interlagos but stress different benefits. One emphasis is financial: the event drew 303,600 spectators in 2025, up from 291,700 a year earlier, and was estimated to have generated R$2.3 billion in economic impact for the city. Mayor Ricardo Nunes said the agreement would preserve an event that “moves the economy, creates jobs, strengthens tourism and projects our city internationally.”

The other emphasis is Formula 1’s long relationship with Brazil and the standing of the race on the calendar. Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1’s president and chief executive, said Brazil is “an important part of Formula 1’s history and our future,” and described the extension as a way to keep racing in São Paulo through 2035. He pointed to the enthusiasm of Brazilian spectators and the country’s contribution of 33 Formula 1 drivers, including current-generation competitors Gabriel Bortoleto and Rafael Camara.

For organizers, the agreement also validates Interlagos as a global motorsport venue. São Paulo Grand Prix chief executive Alan Adler called the extension the result of “dedication, investment and a long-term vision,” while describing the circuit as an integral part of Formula 1 history.

By 2035, Interlagos is expected to have hosted 53 editions of the race. The renewal therefore combines a commitment to upgrading an established venue with an effort to preserve the commercial, tourism and cultural value attached to one of Formula 1’s most historic stops.
