Bell 0.14.0: Faster taps and translation that stays in your language
Bell 0.14.0 is a responsiveness and translation release. Taps now take priority over background work, and translation only produces the reading language you picked in Settings.
Translation
Bell now checks the result before it shows a translation. If the post is already in your reading language, Bell leaves it alone. If the Offline Translator engine answers in some other language, Bell asks once more and then keeps the original text with a short explanation. An English post should no longer turn into Spanish or German by accident.
Short posts and posts that are mostly code or links are hard to identify. In those cases Bell may keep the original untranslated. The original text is always one tap away through the language icon in the post footer.
Media links
When a post contains an image or video link that Bell can render, the post now shows the picture and hides the link text. The link stays in the signed post, so other clients still see it. If the media cannot be shown, the link is shown in its place so you can still open it.
Reactions and replies
Picking an emoji places the reaction immediately, and the signing flow continues in the background. When you change the sending account in a reply or reaction area, the reaction button shows that account’s reaction on the first frame, with no loading indicator.
Tapping Reply opens the composer with the keyboard ready.
Loading and returning to Bell
The busy bar at the top of the timeline is replaced by a small spinner. It only appears when loading takes longer than a moment.
Screens open faster because taps and visible content no longer wait behind relay refreshes. Returning to Bell from another app shows your timeline right away while the catch-up runs behind it, which fixes the freeze some people saw when switching back.
