Bell 0.9.0: Unread activity and focused replies

Bell 0.9.0 adds an unread view that ends at "All caught up," selection for marking posts read across stored history, notification threads that show the path to the new reply first, a composer that grows above the keyboard, and more careful recovery when Bell cannot confirm a send.

Bell 0.9.0 adds an unread view. Tap the envelope icon in the top bar to show only unread posts; tap again for the full timeline. When nothing unread is left, Bell shows “All caught up.” Marking posts read never deletes history.

Long-press a post to start selecting, tap any others, then tap mark read in the toolbar. You can also select all. It covers your current account and direct-reply filters across stored history, including older history fetched later. Replies that arrive live after you select stay unread unless you select them. Bell also marks your own replies read, and any post once your reply or reaction to it is accepted. Read posts show brighter grey text, and their controls still work.

Notification threads now open with the path first: a compact pinned root, earlier replies you can expand, then the new reply, with other replies below. Long posts and deep threads may still need scrolling. The composer now grows above the keyboard and has a smaller header. Long drafts scroll.

When Bell cannot confirm that a send went through, it checks more carefully. It won’t resend a post it already knows was accepted, it can do a limited read-only lookup for that exact post, and it recognises mute changes that a newer, verified change already replaced. Details are collapsed, empty muted and silenced lists are hidden, and some outcomes can still be unknown.

Known limitation: Tab and Shift+Tab focus can stay inside inline media; touch works.
