HE CURSED THE EMPEROR, WHICH IS WHY HE SPENT 30 YEARS IN CAPTIVITY: Today we celebrate Saint Theophylact the Confessor Saint Theophylact the Confessor, Bishop of Nicomedia, is celebrated on March 21st as a defender of icons and a miracle worker. He was exiled for thirty years after directly opposing Emperor Leo the Armenian, an iconoclast who attempted to reintroduce iconoclasm despite its condemnation. Saint Theophylact passed away in exile around 845 AD.
