I Finally Dropped My Motorcycle

Welp, I guess it was bound to happen eventually, but I just dropped my motorcycle. Was driving in the rain and had a stop light change at a perfectly wrong moment - too far to go through on yellow, but too close to stop comfortably. It went well for a bit, I managed to keep the front wheel managed while on and off locking up the rear. A bit before coming to a stop I crossed the painted line that indicates where you’re supposed to stop which broke traction, locked up the front tire, and I hit the ground probably within a second.

Honestly, it went surprisingly well for a crash. I stopped in front of a red light so everyone behind me had already stopped; me and my SG250’s side having a lot more surface area to stop so I only slid a foot or two and never entered the intersection (which was almost certainly red for cross traffic too). Between the armored hoodie and airbag backpack it felt like I landed on a mattress - my right elbow took the worst impact and it didn’t even bruise.

The bike didn’t flood or sustain any serious damage, and I was able to hop back up and get back on the road after a quick inspection to verify everything important was there and working. Lost a mirror and some pride, and’ll need to buy a replacement CO2 cartridge for the airbag. C02 and a replacement mirror is cheap, and I could always probably use to lose a bit of pride.

I have been thinking about purchasing something new this fall when prices drop, the SG250 wasn’t built for the miles I’m putting on it (minor things are breaking like clockwork, and the engine is probably going to need a rebuild within a year since Zonshen engines don’t have as much longevity). ABS just jumped up the list on something I’d consider important, since it’s built to prevent exactly that.
