“We just want to make long content easier to read, so it doesn’t feel overwhelming.” — Anney and Evans from Kenya share their solution with Yakisum.
At the YakiHonne Agentic MiniApps Hackathon, a MiniApp called Yakisum stood out. It focuses on a practical goal: generating one-click summaries for long-form content on the decentralized social platform Nostr. This sleek, user-friendly tool is the first collaborative project of young Kenyan developers Anney and Evans.
🌍 Why Build Yakisum?
“People write a lot on Nostr, but not everyone has time to read everything,” Anney shared in the interview. The idea behind Yakisum was born from a simple reality — limited attention spans and an overwhelming amount of valuable content. So she and Evans built Yakisum, a lightweight summarization tool that automatically fetches the original post and generates a concise summary, helping users quickly grasp long-form content without spending too much time.
🧠 Tech Stack: Simple Yet Effective
Yakisum’s technical approach is straightforward: Node.js: The foundation for development Yakihonne SDK & Widget Handler: Seamless platform integration Gemini AI: Powers intelligent summarization “We didn’t even know how Nostr relays worked at first,” Evans said. Through their curiosity and quick learning of decentralized protocols, they built a functional tool with impressive efficiency.
🔍 Biggest Challenge: Linking Back to the Original Post
What was the most challenging part? “It was figuring out the correct post ID so users could click the summary and be taken back to the original post,” Anney explained. Early on, they spent a lot of time linking the article with the project components — a seemingly small issue, but a crucial detail for delivering a smooth user experience.
👩🏾💻 Teamwork: A Rookie Duo’s Perfect Chemistry
This was Anney’s first collaborative coding project. “When I got stuck, Evans stepped in. We sparked ideas off each other to make the features more complete.” For instance, the “one-click Repost after summary” feature was Evans’ brainchild. Their complementary skills and seamless communication were key to Yakisum’s rapid launch.
📚 Advice for Hackathon Newcomers
“Read the documentation first!” Anney stressed. “Many rush into using AI APIs, but we studied the Yakihonne docs thoroughly before starting.” This preparation made their development and deployment process nearly flawless.
🎓 First Hackathon, First Collaboration For both Anney and Evans
Yakisum marked their first-ever collaborative coding project. “I’ve never built a project as a team before,” Anney shared. “It was amazing to share ideas and solve problems together. I really hope to do more of this in the future.” Evans added, “I didn’t even understand how Nostr relays worked until this hackathon. It was all new to me, and I learned a lot thanks to Anney and the process.”
