The Pragmatic Bridge: Navigating the Great Transition
In my last article, I shared the moment my perspective shifted—from a Bitvavo trader to an “orange-pilled” consultant standing in front of a Dutch food truck. But as anyone who has been in the regulatory trenches since 2010 knows, an “aha!” moment is only the beginning. The real work is in the transition.
We often hear the phrase “Hyperbitcoinization,” the idea that one day the whole world will wake up and price everything in sats. As much as I admire that vision, my 14 years at Simon Consulting have taught me that institutional change is slow and requires a functional bridge. We need tools that respect where people are coming from while showing them where they can go.
The Realist’s Challenge
The biggest barrier for entrepreneurs today isn’t just “understanding” Bitcoin; it’s the friction of moving between worlds. You still have to pay your Dutch taxes in Euros. You still have employees who need to pay their rent in Florins.
If we tell a business owner they have to “sell their house and car” and go 100% self-custodial on day one, we lose them. Instead, we need a pragmatic path—a stack of tools that grow with the user.
The Tools of the Transition: A Chronological Stack
In 2026, the “bridge” is no longer a theoretical concept. It is built out of high-quality, hybrid tools:
-
The Entry Point (Speed Wallet): For the “burger-buying” moments of life, we need speed and simplicity. Custodial Lightning wallets like Speed provide a polished experience that matches the convenience of Apple Pay. It is the perfect starting point for high-velocity daily spending before a user is ready for more technical responsibility.
-
The Community Safety Net (Fedi & Fedimints): Not everyone is ready for a hardware wallet immediately, but many want to move away from centralized exchanges. Fedimints allow communities or businesses to “bank themselves” through collaborative custody. This decentralized custodial model provides a safety net while removing the single point of failure found in traditional banks.
-
The Hybrid Powerhouse (Bringin): This is the ultimate “Holy Grail” for the European entrepreneur. Bringin acts as a sophisticated bridge that offers a self-custodial wallet with NWC (Nostr Wallet Connect) capabilities, but its real magic is the integration with your personal vIBAN.
The Bringin Magic: On- and Off-Ramping Reimagined
What makes Bringin unique is how it handles the “last mile” of finance. Every user gets a dedicated Lightning Address (e.g., yourname@bringin.xyz).
-
The Automatic Off-Ramp: When someone sends sats to that address, they are automatically converted into Euros on your connected vIBAN. From there, you can send those Euros out via Instant SEPA to your main bank account for free, or spend them anywhere in the world using the Bringin Visa debit card—even where Bitcoin isn’t accepted yet.
-
The Seamless On-Ramp: It works perfectly in reverse. You can send Euros from any bank account to your vIBAN and swap them into sats on your self-custodial wallet (on-chain or Lightning) instantly.
Regulation: The Invisible Infrastructure
Many in the Bitcoin world see “regulation” as a dirty word. I see it as the invisible infrastructure that makes tools like Bringin possible.
At Simon Consulting, we are helping firms use these rails to automate their licensing and compliance requirements. By using transparent, programmable protocols like NWC, we can actually make compliance easier and more cost-effective than it ever was in the TradFi world.
Building the Future, One Step at a Time
I’m still the same Pierre who started this firm in 2010, but my toolbox has evolved. We aren’t just drafting policy frameworks anymore; we are helping businesses build sovereign financial stacks.
The transition is a marathon, not a sprint. Whether you’re using an NFC ring for a coffee or a vIBAN to pay your business taxes with sats, you are part of the bridge.
The journey is long, but for the first time in 14 years, I can see exactly where the road leads.
