The Case Against A Gold Backed Currency

The 100% gold dollar concept refers to a monetary system where a currency's value is backed by gold, as opposed to being a fiat currency. Murray Rothbard argued that the abandonment of the gold standard in 1931-1933 was not sudden but part of a lengthy process. Before WWI, a dollar was defined as approximately 1/20th of an ounce of gold. However, gold ownership was banned until Executive Order 6102 was lifted in the 1970s. France sent a battleship to the United States to repatriate its gold, and Nixon took the dollar "temporarily" off the gold standard in 1971. The US government debased gold and made it 41% after issuing Executive Order 6102. Nixon took the dollar completely off the gold standard in 1971. Despite its historical use, modern monetary systems have shifted away from the gold standard due to various factors such as debasement and ease of transactions. --Summary written by Mixtral 8x7B

Garlic Cashew Recipe

The article discusses selling roasted cashews as an experiment in capitalism and provides a ciphered recipe for garlic-roasted cashews. To access the decrypted recipe, readers can either become paid subscribers to the author's Substack or read it in the clear (unencrypted) on Nostr by navigating to primal.net and searching for "marc26z." The author encourages using encryption for privacy but not with weak cryptography. They also mention trying out PGP but finding it cumbersome, leading them to use Nostr instead.

Shilling Shopstr

Shopstr is a free, open-source online marketplace that uses the nostr protocol and allows sellers to accept bitcoin payments through the cashu protocol. The creator of this platform has set up their own store and decided to sell cashews roasted with beef tallow, salt, and garlic powder for 7,000 sats each. They also offer a 10% cashu back reward to customers who make purchases on their store. This initiative aims to gain help desk experience for the creator while making some extra satoshis on the side.
