A simply reminder this week that the convenience of centralized marketplace is still someone else’s *cough cough zuckerberg’s* database.
Why this matters
In late September: One seller turned on Meta’s Muse AI agent, to answer Marketplace messages and hit “allow always.” Then the agent shared his home address and set up a pickup he had not actually confirmed and the buyer showed up at this house and the guy wasn’t even home…
It illustrates a broader AI-agent risk: An agent may treat permission to reply automatically as permission to share sensitive information or commit you to an in-person meeting.
Local pickup on Marketplace can still be fine. Just don’t hand an agent your house keys or blood-type cuz the button looks useful…
TLDR: Meta’s shopping agent shared a seller’s home address because he tapped “allow always”. 😵💫
