Returns and Restocking Fees on Massage Chairs
A massage chair is not the kind of purchase you can toss in the trunk and drive back to a store. Before I ordered mine, I spent an evening reading the return section of the warranty and policy pages, and I’m glad I did. The return window is usually short, the freight cost can be real money, and a few small habits make the whole thing less risky.
Start with the window itself. Most sellers count the return period from the delivery date, not the order date, but confirm that. Shipping a chair can take a couple of weeks, so a 30-day window that starts at purchase is much shorter than it sounds. I put the delivery date on my calendar and set a reminder a few days before the window closed, just to check I was happy.
Freight is the part people miss. These chairs ship by freight carrier on a pallet, and returning one usually means paying for that move again. Some sellers cover it for defects, some charge a flat fee, and some deduct actual freight both ways. I’ve seen hypothetical numbers where return freight alone runs several hundred dollars on a chair that cost $2,000, so it’s worth asking for the specific figure in writing before you buy.
Keep the box and the pallet. I flattened mine and stored it against a garage wall for the full return window. Without original packaging, many sellers refuse the return or add a packaging fee. Keep the foam corners and the straps too.
Ask before ordering, not after. A short email with three questions saves arguments later: When does the return window start? Who pays return freight if I simply don’t like it? Is there a restocking fee, and what percentage? Get the answers in writing. If you’re still comparing models, I found some useful context in these Zero Gravity Massage Chair Picks while narrowing down my own shortlist.
One last habit: inspect the chair on delivery day. Note any damage on the freight paperwork before signing, and photograph the crate. That record matters far more than anything you remember later.
