I'm an S.F. Chronicle meteorologist. Here's my favorite weather app
MacBeth and Michael Horvath look at their app, Foggy, at Ocean Beach on Tuesday. The app incorporates users’ real-time reports.
A San Francisco meteorologist now uses several weather apps, with Foggy being a favorite for its hyperlocal fog tracking features, including user reports and satellite imagery. Other recommended apps include Everything Weather for National Weather Service data and ad-free forecasts, California Smoke Spotter for wildfire and air quality, and Atmos for photography conditions.
- Foggy is a $5.99 app designed for San Francisco and the Bay Area to track and report fog in real time.
- Foggy allows users to toggle between 2-hour and 24-hour satellite imagery loops and submit anonymous reports using 22 descriptive adjectives.
- Co-founder Michael Horvath was inspired by his own frustration with the fog, leading to the development of Foggy with other former executives.
- Everything Weather is a free app that uses exclusively National Weather Service data, is altered by meteorologists, and offers in-depth weather discussions without ads.
- California Smoke Spotter is a free app for tracking wildfires and air quality, created by the California Air Resources Board.
- Atmos for Weather and Photo is a subscription-based app that provides photography conditions, sunset forecasts, and astrophotography data.
