Nunlock: Take Back Your Wellbeing

Nunlock: Reclaiming Reality, One Unlock at a Time

We live in an economy of attention. Every vibration, notification, and red dot is engineered to pull us out of the physical world and into a digital one.

Most of us don’t even realize we’re doing it anymore. You’re standing in line at the grocery store, and your hand reaches for your pocket. You’re at a stoplight, and you check a notification that isn’t there. It’s the “Phantom Unlock”—a reflex action that fragments our focus and keeps us in a state of constant, low-grade distraction.

I built Nunlock not to block my phone, but to understand my relationship with it.

The Philosophy: Awareness Over Restriction

There are plenty of apps that lock you out of your device or shame you for using it. I’ve found those rarely work long-term; we just find ways to bypass them.

Nunlock is built on a different principle: You can’t change what you don’t measure.

It provides a simple, privacy-focused way to track exactly how many times you unlock your device in a day. It doesn’t judge you. It doesn’t stop you. It just holds up a mirror. When you see that you’ve unlocked your phone 80 times before lunch, it forces a moment of conscious reflection: “Is this how I want to spend my day?”

How It Works

Nunlock runs quietly in the background as a lightweight foreground service.

  1. Event Tracking: It listens for the system USER_PRESENT intent—the specific signal Android sends when the device is unlocked and ready to use.
  2. Data Visualization: Instead of trapping your data in a local database or a corporate cloud, Nunlock logs your habits directly to Nostr. This gives you a clean dashboard of your trends while ensuring the data remains truly yours.
  3. Secure Signing: Nunlock is designed to be secure. It doesn’t ask for your private key. Instead, it creates an event and hands it off to Amber for signing. This means your secrets never leave your control—Nunlock just needs to know you approve the action.

How to Get It

Nunlock is open-source and distributed through censorship-resistant channels. You won’t find it on the Google Play Store, and that’s by design.

Option 1: The Sovereign F-Droid Repo

The best way to keep Nunlock updated is via my personal F-Droid repository. This gives you automatic updates signed directly by me.

  1. Install the F-Droid client (or Droid-ify/Neo Store).
  2. Add this repository URL: https://apk.scuba323.com
  3. Search for Nunlock and install.

Option 2: Zapstore (Nostr)

If you are already on Nostr, you can find the app on Zapstore, the decentralized app store built on the Nostr protocol.

  • Nostr Address: com.scuba323.nunlock
  • Latest Release: Check my Nostr profile for the latest Kind 30063 release events.
